Millwall v Portsmouth: Lions supporter arrested and bailed for allegedly nearly biting ear off Sheffield Wednesday fan at Hillsborough on Saturday

Pompey head to Millwall on Saturday for their latest meeting with Alex Neil’s promotion-chasers

Pompey will resume their on-pitch rivalry with Millwall on Saturday as the two Championship sides go head-to-head for valuable league points.

The game at the Den will be the teams’ fifth meeting in two seasons and the sixth time they’ll have prepared to line up against each other, after the initial Fratton Park fixture last season was abandoned before a ball had even been kicked following a power cut just before kick-off.

Off the pitch, that unexpected cancellation led to reports of incidents of fighting among among a minority of fans. Meanwhile, back on Saturday, November 22, 2025, when the two teams last met, a dispersal order was put in place for the high-risk fixture between the hours of 10am to 11pm on Portsea Island to ensure public safety.

Approximately 3,000 Pompey fans are expected in London for this latest meeting between the two sides.

However, the hosts will go into the game off the back of news that one of their supporters was arrested for allegedly nearly biting the ear off a Sheffield Wednesday fan before their game at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Indeed, a 22-year-old man was taken into custody by South Yorkshire Poilice on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and bailed pending further enquiries.

The incident took place just before kick-off on Parkland Road, which leads up to the South Stand at Hillsborough.

A disturbance allegedly broke out at around 2.50pm, with it claimed that a home supporter suffered a severe bite wound to their left ear.

Graphic photos reportedly posted by the injured fan are currently circulating online. The post shows the victim’s ear stitched back in place, with the caption: ‘Just to clear it up, the top of my ear was bitten and nearly took off. It happened on the bridge of the ground. It was a Millwall fan.

‘Thanks for all the messages. Staff at SWFC unreal.’

It’s understood that two people were arrested at the time.

Pompey’s game at Millwall on Saturday kick-offs of at 3pm.

The Blues need the points to keep themselves clear of the relegation zone, with John Mousinho’s side dropping to 21st in the table and one point above the drop zone following Saturday’s PO4 defeat at the hands of Sheffield United.

Millwall, on the other hand, sit third in the Championshp table and three points off the automatic promotion places following their 2-1 win at Hillsborough.
