'Excellent' Portsmouth Academy boss quits Fratton Park for key Charlton Athletic role
The Scot had been at Fratton Park since April 2021
Long-serving Pompey Academy boss Greg Miller has quit Fratton Park to join a fellow Championship club.
The Scot, who had been with the Blues since April 2021, has been unveiled as Charlton’s new Academy manager.

He has already been replaced at Fratton Park, with Academy head of coaching James Barlow promoted to become Miller’s successor.
Charlton had been seeking to fill the position since December, when Tom Pell left to join Tottenham Hotspur.
And, according to the Addicks’ managing director, James Rodwell, Miller brings ‘an excellent combination of on-field experience and an exciting vision for the future of our academy’.
In a club statement on Charlton’s website, Rodwell said: ‘It’s no secret that we have one of the best academies in the country, and I’m delighted that Greg is joining us as our new Academy Manager to help drive us forward.
‘We interviewed a number of outstanding candidates through a detailed and testing process, and Greg stood out at every stage. He brings an excellent combination of on-field experience and an exciting vision for the future of our academy.
‘I’d also like to thank Portsmouth for their cooperation and professionalism throughout the process.’
Miller was appointed as Pompey’s Academy manager in April 2021 after predecessor Mark Kelly had earlier moved into the role of Academy player development manager.
The former Barnsley Academy head was selected by then-chief executive Mark Catlin, with then-interim boss Danny Cowley also involved in the process.
Tayo Singerr yesterday became the latest youngster from Pompey’s Academy to be handed professional terms, having impressed with John Mousinho’s first-team this season.
Miller will see out a notice period and leave Pompey next month, before taking up the reins at Charlton in March.
