Pompey rediscovered their winning touch with a 3-1 triumph at Lincoln to get the 2026-27 campaign up and running.
The hosts were hosting their first game back in the Championship for more than 60 years, yet John Mousinho’s men spoiled the party with a crucial result amid some excellent goals.
Ryan Kavumba-McQueen opened the scoring and then Adrian Segecic doubled their advantage with a free-kick, with Abu Kamara involved in both.
Former Blues winger Reeco Hackett pulled one back for Lincoln from the penalty spot after Zak Swanson had handled, but substitute Ebou Adams wrapped things with a stunning 25-yard strike on 69 minutes.
And here are our Pompey player ratings...

5. Conor Shaughnessy - 8
Back to his best after a shaky opening two games, but he wasn’t the only one who had been below par. Presented with a new central-defensive partner in Arthur and seized responsibility superbly. So dominant in the air. | Simon Roe/ProSportsImages

6. Zak Swanson - 7
Mousinho had spoken about Swanson needing a little time to readjust after injury and the versatile defender responded with a solid showing. Can have no complaints about the handball for the penalty, but knuckled down for a combative display. | Chris Foxwell/ProSportsImages

7. Marlon Pack - 8
(Replaced by Josh Knight on 86 mins) Returned to training at the start of the week and back into the starting XI at Lincoln. Blues know they need a number six, but, in the meantime, Pack is comfortably the best they have. Such an outstanding leader too. | Simon Roe/ProSportsImages

8. Rocco Shein - 7
(Replaced by Ebou Adams on 58 mins) Another assured display, always looking to be so progressive with his passing. Earned a booking after being dispossessed and then taking one for the team by pushing over House, commitment which was good to see. | Ben Whitley/PA Wire
