Injured former Birmingham City forward Keshi Anderson hands Portsmouth another selection headache as injury extent revealed
Pompey have provided an injury update on January signing Keshi Anderson
Pompey have learned how long they will be without injured January signing Keshi Anderson for.
And it’s not great news for John Mousinho’s Championship side, with the winger expected to be out for between 6-8 weeks.
Anderson, who moved to Fratton Park on a free transfer last month following the termination of his Birmingham City contract, suffered a hamstring injury in training last week.
That meant he missed Saturday’s trip to Preston North End and was unable to build on the two impressive substitute appearances he made against Southampton and West Brom respectively following his January 20 switch.
Now, following a scan, the 30-year-old could be out until after Easter as the extent of his injury becomes real. That means potentially missing 11 of the Blues’ remaining 16 Championship games in their battle to avoid the drop to League One - including key fixtures against relegation rivals Charlton (February 17), Blackburn Rovers (March 7) and Oxford (April 6).
It also provides head coach Mousinho with another huge selection headache, particularly with fellow wingers Josh Murphy, Harvey Blair, Florian Bianchini and Franco Umeh remaining unavailable because of injury.
Confirming the news, Mousinho said: ‘Keshi will be out for between 6-8 weeks with a hamstring injury, so, yeah, that’s a big blow for us,’
Pompey sit 20th in the Championship table, one point above the drop zone, heading into this weekend’s home game against Sheffield United.
Anderson had made 20 appearances for Birmingham this season before his Fratton Park switch.
