Portsmouth dealt another huge injury blow as winger to miss rest of season

Pompey suffer Josh Murphy injury blow

Pompey have been dealt yet another season-ending injury blow.

That’s after it emerged that winger Josh Murphy has been ruled out for the remainder of the 205-26 campaign.

The Blues’ player of the year last season has missed the club’s past 13 games, including today’s 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Hull City, because of a fractured metatarsal in his right foot .

It has now been confirmed that he will sit out the rest of the season because of the injury.

Bone just hasn’t healed

Confirming the news, head coach John Mousinho said: ‘The bone in the foot just hasn't healed as we'd like it to, so he's going to be out for the season.

‘He was clearly our best player last year by a long way, so losing him this year...

‘To be honest, he's been playing on a couple of injuries at times - the foot, he's had a couple of issues with hamstring and groins.

‘I don't think we've really had the best of Josh at all. Even in his 15 games that he's played, so that's been something that's been really difficult for us to deal with.

‘But for the most part, the boys have dealt with that very, very well and we've got to do that for the rest of the year.’

Murphy stuck on 14 appearances for the season

Murphy’s last game for Pompey came against Derby on December 20, with a hamstring initially forcing him into the treatment room.

That has since been rectified. However, it later emerged that he was also nursing the foot injury that will now limit him to just 14 appearances this season and six assists.

Pompey bolstered their left-wing options during the January transfer window with the loan arrival of Luton Town forward Millenic Alli.

The Irishman has proven a shrewd bit of business by the Blues after settling in well at Fratton Park. He’s started Pompey’s past 10 games, registering one goal and one assist in the process.

Yet he was unable to inspire Mousinho’s side to victory against Hull, with the 26-year-old unable to find a way of unlocking the Tigers defence as the home side sufferedtheir second defeat of the week.
