'It's so obvious' - Portsmouth faithful say same thing as Blues' January transfer window priorities come into focus

Pompey fans have 43 days to wait until the January transfer window opens

Pompey fans on social media have been telling us what they think the Blues’ priorities in the forthcoming January transfer window should be.

And there’s a general theme that the majority seem to agree on - no position is off limits, apart from the goalkeeper!

That will, no doubt, come as a surprise to the powers-that-be at Fratton Park after a summer overhaul saw 11 new signings arrive, eight of which had fees attached, and 14 members of last season’s squad leave.

But with Pompey currently sitting just four points above the Championship’s relegation zone in 20th with just one win in 11 games; head coach John Mousinho currently having no specialist left-back to call upon; centre-forward Colby Bishop scoring just one goal this season; a successor to Matt Ritchie yet not found; injuries taking their toll again; and questions constantly being asked about the Blues’ midfield options and recruitment in the summer - is there any wonder the Fratton faithful believe another January rescue mission needs sanctioning?

Of course, all of the above can change between now and transfer window opening on New Year’s Day. Some of the anxiety levels many fans are currently experiencing coud subside if the Blues once again find their feat in the division after an initial solid start to the campaign.

At the same time, though, nothing is guaranteed - and fans believe plans should be in place to ensure a return to League One is not an option.

With that in mind, here’s the actions our followers on Facebook reckon is needed for the Blues to enjoy a better second half of the season.

What Pompey fans want to see from Blues in January transfer window

David Higgins: 1. Creative midfielder (clearly the management do not rate Kosznovszky or Le Roux - another pair of ‘who are they’ options that never worked out).

2. Goals scored speaks for itself: A proven striker.

Hopefully Umeh will by then be fit and have filled the right wing void that has been glaring since Kamara left.

Gary Walters: Left-back, Centre-forward, Right-winger, Centre-half, midfielder.

Michael Allen: Someone who can score goals regularly and a solid defender.

Chris Barter: Attacking midfielder and an experienced striker, possibly a left-back depending on fitness.

Pete Tiffin: Left-back to cover Oglivie & striker with proven Championship quality with pace & power.

Chris Lewis: We do seem to be a bit leaky at the moment, but that may not necessarily need new players, the ones we have have proved on enough occasions that they can defend well if they concentrate hard enough. I'm struggling with the fact that we have two proven goalscorers up front and just behind but neither seems to be performing right now. It seems to me that we need to get the players we have performing consistently (well, not badly as they currently are) more than we need new ones.

Stuart Anderson: Say solid defender and midfielder to support and supply our front line.

Dave Jones: It’s so obvious, with the worst goal scoring stat in the league and our main striker only scoring once all season we need a decent striker.

Marcus Dovahkiin Deakins: Pretty much everywhere.…

Neil Hawkins: Quality striker and playmaker in midfield… and get Matt Ritchie back!

Tony Worrall: Players to replace Potts and Atkinson might help.

Justin McClumpha: Left-back and a quality striker who knows where the back of the net is

Andy Smith: Striker - right winger - left-back at very least.

Derek Crutcher: All of them except a keeper.

Gary Lamont: Quality midfielders that can create, a quality right-winger & left back and teach the defence to pick up their players whether zonal or man-marking. Been poor when defending and questionable tactic and subs.
