Portsmouth face anxious wait over Conor Shaughnessy after latest injury blow
The Irishman was replaced by Regan Poole in the second half of this afternoon’s 2-2 draw
Pompey are facing an anxious wait to discover the extent of Conor Shaughnessy’s latest injury blow.
The influential Irishman was forced off in the 63rd minute of this afternoon’s 2-2 draw with Blackburn with a groin issue.

After going down inside the penalty area in front of the Milton End, following treatment he was replaced by Regan Poole to partner Madiodio Dia in the centre of defence.
Shaughnessy has started seven of Pompey’s eight matches in all competitions so far this season, building up some excellent form of late.
However, in a week in which Pompey have lost Benjy Arthur to a fractured back for up to three months, they can ill afford to also be without Shaughnessy.
Mousinho told The News: ‘Shocks just felt his groin, I don’t know what that’s going to be, it doesn’t look terrible.
‘It’s still early to tell, not even the best could diagnose it yet, so we’ll leave it.
‘It’s not ideal in the same week that we lose Benjy, they are racking up at the minute, but I have no idea what the extent of it is.’
Dia was chosen ahead of Poole to replace the injured Arthur for Blackburn’s visit, although the pair did end up the match together.

Pompey took a fourth-minute lead through Zak Swanson on his return to right-back, only for Dapo Afolayan to level seven minutes later after poor defending.
Ryoya Morishita handed the visitors the advantage on 56th minute, before the Blues lost Shaughnessy through injury, with Poole coming off the bench.
Yet Colby Bishop diverted Ryan Kavuma-McQueen’s shot in the 74th minute in front of the Fratton Park to grab a leveller and secure a 2-2 draw.
That leaves the Blues in 18th spot heading into the international break, albeit with one game in hand following the postponement of their trip to Wolves.
In terms of centre-halves, they currently have Dia and Poole available, with Hayden Matthews (Bradford) and Josh Knight (Reading) out on loan in the search for regular first-team football.
Pompey’s next match is against Southampton on October 11, allowing the Blues three weeks to oversee Shaughnessy’s groin worry.
