Portsmouth 'fear the worst' as update provided on injury player
Mark Kosznovsky injury latest
Pompey ‘fear the worst’ over the injury picked up by Mark Kosznovszky in Monday night’s victory over Charlton Athletic.
The Blues are bracing themselves for the Hungarian midfielder to be out for the rest of the season as they await further confirmation on the knee problem he sustained in the second half against the Addicks.
Kosznovszky, a summer recruit from MTK Budapest, was only on the pitch 20 minutes when he had to be substituted with the complaint.
A substitute himself, he was replaced by Ibane Bowat for the final minutes of the Fratton Park fixture after being withdrawn from the action straight away.
The 23-year-old, who was making his 15th Championship appearance of the season for the Blues, was not included in Pompey’s match-day squad for their New Year’s Day defeat at the hands of Bristol City.
He was one of eight players ruled out of the game through injury, with Marlon Pack also absent with a hamstring issue - leaving John Mousinho to recall Luke Le Roux to the starting XI for the first time in nine games.
The 5-0 hammering suffered at Ashton Gate was a blow to Pompey’s Championship survival hopes, with the gap to the bottom three reduced to just a single point.
Now the Blues are preparing themselves for another disappointment, with Kosznovszky’s injury not looking good for the second half of the season.
John Mousinho provides Mark Kosznovszky injury latest
When asked about Kosznovszky’s absence and the serverity of the injury suffered, Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent: ‘I don’t know. We fear the worst with Mark, but we haven’t had a scan on it yet.
‘We’re going to scan him tomorrow and go from there.’
When asked if the knee injury was season-ending, the Pompey boss added:’Yeah, it doesn’t look great.’
With both Kosznovszky and Pack absent against Bristol City, the Blues are certainly down to the barebones in that department.
It’s an area Pompey are expected to strenghen during the transfer window, although there is better news in terms of the injury sustained by Pack when celebrating the Blues’ winner against Charlton.
‘He felt his hamstring the other night so shouldn’t be too severe,’ added Mousinho.
‘I’d expect to see him back for the Arsenal game.’
