The former England man scored 17 goals in 36 outings for the Blues

Pompey are lined up for a reunion with Jermain Defoe after fresh pre-season details were announced.

The former England man scored 17 goals in 36 appearances during a year-long Fratton Park stay which ended with his return to Spurs in January 2009.

The 43-year-old now manages Woking, who will form the Blues’ opposition in a friendly taking place on Tuesday, July 14 (7pm).

To be staged at the Kingfield Stadium, it’s a repeat of last season’s fixture which John Mousinho’s men won 2-0 through goals from Adrian Segecic and Paddy Lane.

Defoe took over as boss of the National League club from Neal Ardley in March, overseeing two wins and one defeat in seven matches as he steered them to a 10th-placed finish.

Woking are one of three friendlies unveiled by the Blues tonight, although Aldershot had previously announced they were hosting the Championship club on Wednesday, July 15 (7pm).

The third fixture sees Mousinho’s troops travel to Farnborough on Wednesday, July 29 (7pm) in another repeat of last season’s friendly schedule.

The National League South club lost 5-0 in July 2025, with Zak Swanson, Harry Clout, Marlon Pack, Thomas Waddingham and Josh Murphy scoring for the visitors.

As revealed by The News last week, traditional friendlies against the Hawks, Gosport and Bognor are off the table this summer amid Pompey concerns over playing on 3G pitches as part of their Championship preparations.

Meanwhile, a Moneyfields friendly at the John Jenkins Stadium on Tuesday, July 28 (7.45pm) will involve a Pompey XI in the form of the Academy.

It represents only the third time in 56 years that Pompey have played in Germany, having previously faced MSV Duisburg (September 1970) and Wolfsburg (December 2008).
