15 superb photos of 28 returning Portsmouth favourites attending popular Former Players' Day

Monday’s Championship clash with Oxford United also staged the popular annual event

Fratton Park generously welcomed a host of returning Pompey favourites at the Former Players’ Day on Monday.

The popular annual event attracted 28 ex-players including Linvoy Primus, Kit Symons, Ray Crawford, Billy Gilbert, Svetoslav Todorov, Alan Biley, Mick Tait, Vince Hilaire and, of course, Alan Knight.

Also present were the families of late Blues players Jon Gittens, Jimmy Stephen and Anton Walkes, with all of the very special guests introduced onto the Fratton Park pitch at half-time of the 2-2 draw with Oxford United.

Pompey supplied 70 tickets to ex-players and their families, who took their places in the North Stand Lower on a glorious south coast afternoon.

And Jake Payne, secretary of the Pompey Former Players Association, was delighted with another successful event.

He told The News: ‘It was a terrific day and all the former players were made to feel extremely welcome - by the fans and the club.

‘I don’t know of many football clubs who would have given 70 tickets free of charge, especially when they could have sold them for such a big game.

‘It was a superb gesture once again from Andy Cullen and the club and really appreciated by everyone connected with the event.’

Those former Pompey players attending were: Ray Crawford, John Milkins, Dave Munks, Clive Green, Mick Mellows, Richie Reynolds, Steve Davey, Derek Showers, Alan Biley, Ernie Howe, Paul Wood, Lee Sandford, Mick Tait, Billy Gilbert, Vince Hilaire, Guy Whittingham, Guy Butters, Gavin Maguire, Kit Symons, Dave Waterman, Mark Chamberlain, Brian Howard, Svetoslav Todorov, Linvoy Primus and Alan Knight.
