How Portsmouth fans have reacted to Callum Lang to Preston North End for £1.75m development

Pompey fans have been sharing their thoughts on Callum Lang’s proposed move to PNE after £1.75m deal struck

Pompey fans on social media have been reacting to the development that Callum Lang is closing in on a £1.75m move to Championship rivals Preston North End.

The News revealed on Friday night that the popular forward was Deepdale bound after the Lilywhites made a breakthrough in their negotiations for the forward.

It means the Fratton faithful will be denied a chance to say goodbye to a player who scored 16 goals and registered four assists in his 53 games for the club following his £400,000 move from Wigan in January 2024.

Indeed, as expected, Lang has not been named in the Blues match-day squad for today’s game against West Brom as he closes in on a return to the north west.

But what have fans been saying as his proposed move to North End accelerated over the past 24 hours?

We’ve taken a look and here’s what we discovered.

Fans react to Callum Lang to Preston North End news

@RobaFett1898: I’m more surprised Preston are willing to spend money on a player with a terrible injury record.

As much as I love Lang, I don’t trust him to stay fit for a relegation battle. As long as the money is reinvested properly, then it’s decent business.

@BenGloverYHZ: Ugh torn on this one. Makes our squad weaker in the short term, and the fee isn’t great.

But he’s spent so much time injured it’s probably time to move on. The funds need to reinvested ASAP.

@morton256: Sad to see him go, but I don't think it's a terrible fee for a player who's as injured as he is.

I just don't have any confidence that we'll re-invest that money well enough.. so we've essentially damaged our chances of staying up.

@Captain_Outram: Gutted about this one, wish him all the best apart from when he plays us, £1.75 million is absurdly cheap, we will miss his creativity a lot.

@pompeanut1898: Love him but that’s a decent amount. If it’s appearance based it’ll likely stay closer to the £1.75m but as long as it’s reinvested then it’s good business.

@oaktowers: 6 months, plus an option for 12 months isn't bad for that fee. If there are personal reasons involved then it's best to agree the best for all parties and move on.

@ReadA89: I’d take that for a bloke who is fit for a third of the season (as much as I love him). But we dont have time to spend it now?

@Ruffy_Roy: For a player who has hardly played in the past year and at the end of his contract, it’s a pretty decent deal. Get people are annoyed but based on injury record and contract status, it’s a decent deal.

@ShaunCHill: Terrible decision this late into the window. He’s just about to return to fitness too. As it stands right now with our transfer activity we’re going down. It’s on Rich Hughes and the Eisners.

@kenziemoore01: Replacing a player of that quality when fit is going to be incredibly hard to do, and i don’t trust the recruitment team to even do that properly. Sad times.

@LWalterini1898: If we don't have a very good permanent replacement already lined up then its absolutely shocking.
