'Not like I've been flooded with chances' - Portsmouth striker Colby Bishop addressing his 'disappointing' form ahead of Blackburn Rovers

Pompey striker Colby Bishop has scored three goals in all competitions this season

Colby Bishop has admitted he’s disappointed with his goal return for Pompey this season.

However, the Blues striker has used the lack of chances that have fallen his way this term as a major factor in his current scoring tally.

The 29-year-old’s form in front of goal has been the subject much debate among the Fratton faithful as the season has progressed.

With three goals in 32 games to date, and just two of them coming in open play, the former Accrington striker’s return is well below the high standards he has set himself since moving to the south coast in the summer of 2022.

Indeed, up until this season, the Pompey frontman had reached double figures for each of the campaigns he had been at the club, and presently sits on 59 goals in 164 appearances for the club.

Yet this term has proven a lot tougher for Bishop, leading many fans to question his continued role in the team and the Blues’ failure to bring in a Championship-ready striker to compete with him during the January transfer window.

Bishop: Probably disappointing

Bishop will start his 30th league game for Pompey this term when they play take on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park today.

He gets the nod ahead of Jacob Brown, who arrived on loan from League One Luton in January, with Thomas Waddingham and Makenzie Kirk both out injured.

Before kick-off, though, he was asked by Sky Sports about his current form.

In response, the Bishop confessed he was not happy with how his campaingn has unfolded. But he added that without chances coming his way, he’s unable to meet the tallies previously recorded when lining up for the club.

When asked about his form, Bishop told Sky Sports: ‘It’s probably disappointing. It’s not where I want to be at, but all I can do is do everything I can for the team and hopefully I’ll get more chances where I can put the ball in the back of the net.

‘It’s not like I’ve been flooded with chances and I’m not someone who really creates stuff from outside the box. I’m more in the box, so I can just keep being in the box and hopefully it’s gong to come and when the chance comes I can take it.’

Bishop’s last goal for the Blues came from the penalty spot as John Mousinho’s side beat Charlton 3-1 at The Valley last month.

Prior to that, he scored from open play in Pompey’s 4-1 FA Cup defeat to Arsenal in January.

His last league goal from open play came against West Brom on August 23.
