Free-scoring former Portsmouth striker snapped up - making it three ex-Blues with ambitious non-leaguers

The ex-Fratton Park youngster scored 54 times in 158 appearances for AFC Portchester

A former Pompey player has joined Moneyfields - swelling their ex-Fratton Park ranks to three.

At the age of 17 years and nine months, Harrison Brook made his Blues debut against West Ham Under-21s in the Papa John’s Trophy in November 2020.

That would prove to be the attacker’s first and last Pompey outing, although he was an unused substitute in fixtures at Cheltenham and Peterborough during Kenny Jackett’s side’s cup run that season.

However, at the season’s end, all the club’s second-year and third-year scholars departed, including Harry Kavanagh, Charlie Bell, Harvey Rew and Eoin Teggart.

Southampton trial

In Brook’s case, though, his departure was entirely on his own terms, having rejected the offer of a third-year scholarship along with Seok Jae Lee.

Instead he trialled at Southampton, playing one match for their under-23s, before the talented youngster was snapped up by Bognor in the summer of 2021.

Brook then featured for Gosport, AFC Portchester and Baffins during some highly-productive goal-scoring periods, attracting attention from Luton and Cheltenham.

Now the 23-year-old has been unveiled as Moneyfields’ first signing of the summer, further bolstering Callum Glen’s side after last season losing in the play-offs in the Isthmian League South Central Division.

In doing so, he joins fellow Pompey Academy graduates Adam Payce and Alfie Bridgman, who both impressed after arriving at the John Jenkins Stadium in 2025-26.

‘It’s a good fit’

‘It’s a good fit, a club seemingly really keen on moving forward, so it sounds like a great time to join Moneyfields.’

The move ends a successful stay at Portchester, where he plundered 54 goals in 146 appearances.

After arriving in the summer of 2022 following a disappointing stay at Gosport, Brook was part of the triumphant Wessex League Premier Division title-winning side in 2024-25.

With fierce competition in the striking ranks last season, including fellow former Pompey Academy attacker Alfie Stanley, Brook signed for Baffins on dual-registration forms, scoring four goals in nine games.

Pompey exodus in summer 2021

Back in the summer of 2021, the exodus of all Pompey’s second and third-year scholars earned much criticism, particularly the amount of local talent involved.

Kavanagh, Harry Anderson, Bell, Tom Bruce, Stanley, Leon Pitman, Rew, Gerard Storey and Teggart all departed the Blues, with not a single player retained.

While turning down Pompey contract offers that same summer saw Brook and Lee embark on their own pathways, with the latter having since featured for the Hawks, Gosport and Bognor.
