'Ambitions that match my own' - Reported Portsmouth target's first words as Brøndby player after €2.5m move sealed
Reported Pompey target Ousmane Sow has completed his anticipated move to Brøndby
Reported Pompey target Ousame Sow has admitted he’s joined a club that match his ambitions after sealing his much-anticipated move to Brøndby.
The Senegal forward completed his move to the Danish Superliga outfit on Friday, with reports claiming Steve Cooper’s side forked out €2.5m, plus bonuses, for the Gornik Zabrize man.
Sow, who is reported to have turned down interest from the Championship struggling Blues from a ‘sporting aspect’, has signed a contract with Brøndby until 2030.
He makes the move after nine goals and two assists in 19 2025-26 games for Polish top-flight side Zabrize, who paid Beligan side Lierse just £260,000 for his services last spring.
Czech side Viktoria Plzen were also credited with a move for the winger. But speaking after his unveiling, Sow said Brøndby was the ‘best choice’ for the next step in his career.
Why Ousmane Sow joined Brøndby
‘I've seen videos with the fans, and it's clear that it's a club with many fantastic fans, who I'm really looking forward to meeting’ Sow told Brøndby’s official website.
‘For me, Brøndby was the best choice, and for my development this is a big and important step.
‘It is a club with ambitions that match my own, and it is a club that has shown me great trust - not least by showing how much they want me. I will give everything I have to live up to that trust.’
Brøndby football director Benjamin Schmedes added: ‘Ousmane has had an atypical and in many ways interesting path to the top, but it has not been possible to avoid catching our eye what he has achieved in Poland over the past six months.
‘He has an ability and desire to challenge, a great explosiveness and not least a goalscoring ability that we believe can be translated to the Super League.
‘With his qualities, Ousmane can create unrest in the opponents' defense and excitement on the goalposts. These are very useful qualities in a club like ours, and that is why I am delighted that he will now be part of Brøndby.’
Pompey’s need for right-wing reinforcements
Sow is not the only right-winger Pompey have been linked with in the opening 10 days of the January transfer window.
The News understands FC Zurich forward Jahnoah Markelo is also on the Blues’ radar as they look for opportunities to bolster a problem position for head coach John Mousinho following the decision to let Matt Ritchie leave at the end of last season.
Franco Umeh was recruited for that side of the pitch in the summer, but the youngster has featured just once off the bench after arriving from Crystal Palace for £500,000 with a hamstring issue.
Harvey Blair has also suffered from fitness issues amid hopes he would have made a significant breakthrough this term, although he has returned to the first-team fold in recent weeks.
Conor Chaplin, Adrian Segecic, Terry Devlin and Florian Bianchini are among those who have also featured for Pompey wide right this season.
