'Underwhelming. Good fit. Doesn't appeal' - Bristol City fans react as Portsmouth boss John Mousinho linked with Ashton Gate managerial position
Speculation over John Mousinho’s Pompey future has intensified over the past 24hours amid links with Championship rivals Bristol City
Bristol City fans on social media have been sharing their thoughts on reports linking Pompey boss John Mousinho with the manager’s job at Ashton Gate.
On Tuesday, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook claimed the Robins were showing ‘fresh interest’ in the 39-year-old, who has once again guided Pompey to Championship safety with one of the lowest budgets in the division.
Current Brondby boss Steve Cooper is also reportedly on City’s radar - as is former Aston Villa and Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard - as they look for a permanent successor to Gerhard Struber, who was sacked at the end of March and replaced by interim manager Roy Hodgson.
Mousinho has been asked numerous times by The News for his thoughts on his future since the club’s Championship safety was sealed. Indeed, on Saturday, the ex-Oxford United boss on Saturday said he remains as committed as ever to the Blues.
Pompey fans have have also had plenty to say on the matter as they would loath to lose the man who also steered them to the League One title in 2024-24.
But what do Bristol City supporters think of the links? We took a look through posts uploaded onto X, and this is what we discovered.
Bristol City fans have their say on John Mousinho links
@3thanbcfc: Mousinho doesn’t appeal to me at all tbh, Cooper feels boring but probably better chance of progression with him.
@liam_fowler: Personally, I’d be going all out for Lee Carsley, none of the others thrill me at all, you’ve got passing for passing sake with Martin, Gerrard hasn’t done anything special, Cooper is a bland appointment and Mousinho is so underwhelming and would show a lack of ambition.
@AniHarish1: Mousinho is the one I’d want the most. Absolutely brilliant job at Pompey with a limited budget. Adapted style of play after promotion. Brilliant home form last season. I wanted him last summer but if he can be tempted then… brilliant.
@BCFC_Supporters: We’ve held interest in Mousinho for a few years now. I’d personally be underwhelmed with him.
@sudsweio_bcfc: It seems underwhelming but he’s done a great job at Pompey with limited resources. I prefer Gerrard and probably Cooper though.
@15mel03: Mousinho wouldn’t help sell tickets.
@ss_4324: Done amazing job at Portsmouth on a very low budget, plays good football from what i’ve seen, don’t think Cooper comes here without being promised a budget.
@Barn_CF: Aim for Gerrard & end up with Mousinho would be about right for us, underwhelming FC.
@PikeyTrev: Mousinho what has he actually achieved?
@BcfcDK_: Mousinho would be a really good appointment, seems a good fit for us.
@KevinCl76553901: Definitely underwhelming.
@Millz_10: I really hope it isn’t Mousinho. I know a Pompey fan who doesn’t rate him at all. Strange subs/tactics and players out of position
@Redarmy1960: Cooper yes , Mousinho no.
@themightyingers: I almost feel sad for saying this as it is no guarantee of success but I feel we need a higher profile name at this moment in time, one that inspires our good players to want to stay and high quality new players to want to come, as well as maybe some much needed investment.
@C_Farmerr: Mousinho would be a great addition imo. Worked wonders on 0 money, got Pompey promoted, has unreal home form, Pompey fans love him. Not much to dislike.
@_W00KS_: As good as Mousinho is its bad news for us if he comes. Great at working with a limited budget = music to Lansdowns ears.
@LumisLunaris: Hard to argue he hasn't done a great job at Pompey with limited resources. I would take him over Gerrard personally.
