'Real quality': Portsmouth boss John Mousinho hails first Fratton Park signing of the summer

The former England youth international made 140 appearances and scored 12 goals at Stockport

Odin Bailey will bring ‘real quality in the final third’, according to John Mousinho.

The former Stockport midfielder today signed for the Blues on a free transfer, becoming their first recruit of the summer.

The 26-year-old has agreed a three-year Fratton Park contract, having also attracted interest from Bolton, Sheffield Wednesday and Lincoln.

He was an integral part of the Hatters squad which lost in last season’s League One play-off final at Wembley against Bolton.

And now he has become the first Pompey arrival of the summer transfer window.

Mousinho told Pompey’s official website: ‘Odin is a versatile player who joins us following an excellent season at Stockport.

“He will provide us with real quality in the final third and is also at a good age to continue to develop as a footballer.

‘We’re delighted to get our first signing of the summer transfer window over the line and I’m excited to start working with Odin as we continue our preparations for the new Championship campaign.’

After coming through the ranks at Birmingham, Bailey made his first-team debut against Pompey in a League Cup game in August 2019.

Kenny Jackett’s side ran out 3-0 winners through Ellis Harrison (two) and Ben Close, with Bailey coming off the bench for the visitors in the 55th minute.

He made six Championship outings in that 2019-20, before ending the season on loan at Forest Green Rovers, with Rich Hughes recruiting him.

He later had another Forest Green loan spell and then Livingston, before joining Salford on a free transfer and then moving onto Stockport in the summer of 2023.

The former England youth international made 140 appearances and scored 12 goals during his time at Edgeley Park.
