'I'm sure there's going to be some' - Portsmouth boss makes Adrian Segečić 'suitors' admission after memorable first season at Fratton Park

Adrian Segečić has enjoyed an impressive first year in English football with Pompey - and Blues boss John Mousinho is wary that could lead to interest in the winger during the summer transfer window

John Mousinho admitted Adrian Segečić’s maiden season at Fratton Park won’t have gone unnoticed by club’s higher up the footballing pyramid.

The Pompey boss said he’s sure the Blues will field interest in the forward as he’s poised to end the season as the club’s top scorer in the Championship.

But rather than worry about that potential, he sees it has a huge complement to what both the young Aussie and the club have achieved over the 2025-26 campaign.

Adrian Segečić’s impressive adaption to English football

The 21-year-old, who scored on his debut at Oxford United. has racked up 38 appearances in all competitions for Mousinho’s side and registered 10 goal contributions, which is more than anyone else in the Blues’ squad.

His strike in Tuesday night’s 5-1 defeat at champions Coventry took his league goal tally for the campaign to seven. Meawnhile, his trio of assists in the hugely important victories against Middlesbrough, Ipswich and Leicester last week went a long way to securing Pompey’s Championship status with two games left to play.

There have been difficult times, too, however, including a drop in form and the attacker’s costly error in the 1-0 defeat to Hull at the end of February.

Regardless, Segečić has overcome those difficulties. And just weeks after turning his back on Australia to represent Croatia on the internaional stage, Mousinho believes the forward’s stock has risen significantly after just one season at PO4.

John Mousinho latest on Adrian Segečić

It’s highly unlikely that Pompey will look to profit from Segečić’s maiden campaign on the south coast. After all, they had to see off stiff competition from both home and abroad to sign the Sydney-born youngster less than 12 months ago, landing him on a three-year deal.

However, that doesn’t mean clubs won’t come knocking to see what the player’s situation is.

Speaking to The News ahead of Saturday’s trip to Stoke City, Mousinho said: ‘It's always good to have your players in demand. Sometimes it provides some difficulties.

‘Obviously, we sold Callum Lang in January because of the amount of demand there was for the player.

‘There was probably a lot of interest in Josh (Murphy) last summer. And there's probably going to be interest in players this year that have done pretty well.

‘If you speak about Segs, for example, Segs, at the age of 21, with his seven goals, I'm sure there's going to be some suitors in the league and maybe even the league above.

‘That's something I think is a compliment to those players. It's always a good sign if other clubs want your players. It's probably not if you go through a window and no-one else wants them. ‘
