Exclusive:Transfer interest mounts in Portsmouth’s emerging ace after big Championship impact

Exclusive transfer news this afternoon over Pompey’s in-form top scorer.

Transfer interest in Adrian Segecic is mounting after a big end-of-season impact at Pompey.

The News understands clubs in the Premier League, Championship and on the continent are eyeing the Blues’ top scorer, as his form soars at Fratton Park.

Premier League, Championship and European interest in Segecic

And Pompey boss John Mousinho has underlined Segecic should see suitors eyeing the attacking ace’s services as ‘flattering’, after an eye-catching period at PO4.

Segecic has stepped up at a big moment in the campaign, with three critical assists which have proved central in taking his side to second-tier safety.

That has come among a run of three assists and four goals from five games, capped by his maiden Championship hat-trick at Stoke City last week.

That took the 21-year-old’s goal return into double figures, in his first season in English football following his arrival from Sydney FC last summer.

Segecic’s stock is certainly on the rise with his development not going unnoticed among the top two divisions of English football, while clubs across Europe are monitoring his progress.

Pompey could conceivably return a multimillion pound profit on the popular figure, who arrived at Fratton Park for a six-figure training compensation fee last summer.

That would then see his valuation soar, with the Blues able to return a huge uplift on their asset who still has two years to run on his existing agreement.

Mousinho: ‘Flattering when there’s some interest for Segs’

When speaking in the context of Bristol City talk this week, Pompey boss touched on Segecic attracting interest from other clubs.

He said: ‘When I speak about players and players getting interest from other clubs I always see it as a positive.

‘I’ve always said it’s quite flattering when Terry Devlin gets linked somewhere, there’s some interest for Segs, there’s some interest for Murph - it means we’re doing something right.

‘I guess it’s quite a nice thing in the media to have that interest.’

He said: ‘It's always good to have your players in demand. Sometimes it provides some difficulties.

‘Obviously, we sold Callum Lang in January because of the amount of demand there was for the player.

‘There was probably a lot of interest in Josh (Murphy) last summer. And there's probably going to be interest in players this year that have done pretty well.

‘If you speak about Segs, for example, Segs, at the age of 21, with his seven goals, I'm sure there's going to be some suitors in the league and maybe even the league above.

‘That's something I think is a compliment to those players. It's always a good sign if other clubs want your players. It's probably not if you go through a window and no-one else wants them.’
