Portsmouth favourite Adrian Segečić makes potential life-changing decision amid transfer interest from Premier League and Europe
Pompey attacker Adrian Segečić is moving in new circles following an important off-the-field decision
Adrian Segečić is on the move this summer. Although, Pompey fans can rest easy - for now!
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has seen his stock rise dramatically since swapping Sydney FC for Fratton Park just over 12 months ago,
A player the Blues signed for a six-figure training compensation fee, Australian-born Segečić finished the 2025-26 season as Pompey’s top scorer with 11 goals and a firm favourite among the Fratton faithful.
He also stood on the brink of a sensational call-up to the Croatia national side for this summer’s World Cup Finals, having made the controversial decision to swap international allegiances back in the spring and lining up for the Croats at under-21 level.
Meanwhile, all summer long Pompey have been bracing themselves for interest in the attacker, with Premier League and European clubs taking note of an impressive maiden season at PO4.
Segečić’s career is clearly on an exciting upward trajectory that promises many lucrative possibilities for the talented youngster.
And that upwardly mobile movement is reflected in an off-the-pitch decision he has made that could help him scale the heights expected of him.
Change in representation for Segečić
When Segečić moved to Fratton Park last summer, he was part of the Australian-based Republic Sports Management agency that played a key role in brokering his switch to the south coast.
Fast forward to today, though, and the forward is now part of the global CAA Base stable that represents some of the biggest names in football, including Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, Eberechi Eze, Heung-min Son and recent World Cup winner Pedro Porro.
It’s a mouthwatering switch that Segečić revealed via his Instagram account late on Thursday night, at roughly the same time Pompey were announcing the signing of Marko Milovanovic.
The Serb represents Pompey’s biggest outlay on a player since their Premier League days, with the striker joining for a fee that could rise to €5m, or €6m according to Spanish reports.
On the pitch, the Fratton faithful will be looking forward to see how both Segečić and Milovanovic link up.
But off the pitch, Segečić will be rubbing shoulders with £100m-plus players, company that he will no doubt have aspirations to join in the future.
What does change mean for Pompey?
With that in mind, the question is: what does this change in representation mean for Pompey?
On the one hand, it changes nothing, other than the player’s current profile and reputation in the game, which is something the Blues would welcome. Segečić is, of course, under contract at Fratton Park until 2028.
On the other hand, though, some observers could identify strategic reasons behind the move.
One close to home is It could enhance Segečić’s position if he were to enter negotiations for an improved contract at PO4.
However, having world-renowned representation could also help maximise known Premier League interest and speed up actual bids for the player.
Operating under the umbrella of a global agency will also improve the Croatia under-21 international’s connections across Europe, if he wished to take his career in that direction.
In truth, only Segečić and his new representatives will know for certain what the switch really means.
In the meantime, here’s a reminder of what the attacking midfielder said about his Pompey future at the beginning of July, amid growing interest in his capabilities.
Segečić said: ‘It’s good. It means I’ve had a good season and people feel I can make the step to the next league and massive clubs around the world. So, obviously, for me, that’s a positive that people are talking about me playing for those clubs.
‘The main focus for me is to stay fit and get my body ready for next season, no matter what happens.
‘Even for the gaffer doing so well, he’s had noise. He also said that other clubs wanting our players shows that we’re doing something well. That’s a massive positive for everyone at Portsmouth.’
He added: ‘I love it here.
‘I love the way we play and I’ve adapted well to the boys, the staff and the area.
‘It feels like the fans have taken to me well. I think half the reason I’ve been playing well is because I'm so comfortable.
‘I love the city and I love where I am right now, so for me it’s a win-win.
‘I’ve adapted well and I’m enjoying my time here, definitely.
‘Also I like living here - which I wasn’t sure would happen moving here from Sydney!
‘It’s really not that bad at all - apart from the rain! Seriously, I’m loving it here and I’m loving my time at Portsmouth.’
