Pompey kick off the new season with a trip to West Ham in the Carabao Cup

Pompey fans on social media have been reacting the the starting XI John Mousinho has named for the opening day of the season.

The Blues boss has given competitive debuts to Rocco Shein and Luke Brooke-Smith, two of his six summer signings to date, for the game at West Ham.

However, there’s no Marko Milovanovic in the line-up, with the Serbian striker having to make do with a place on the bench for the London Stadium fixture.

As a result, Colby Bishop starts up front. Meanwhile, Luke Le Roux takes his place in midfield despite the South African being told his future lies away from Fratton Park,

Here’s what fans have been saying on Twitter ahead of the Carabao Cup fixture.

Fans share verdict on first starting XI of season

@LWalterini1898: Ooof, thats rough, sooner we get Abu in and Murphy back and another CM the better.

@PompeyTdog: Weak links are obviously Colby, Brooke smith and le roux, once Kamara signs , marezi is fully integrated , and le roux’s gone, it’s a solid team.

@Mattdinio: I honestly don't get why he likes Adams in the 10.

@Ruffy_Roy: Not playing a recognised 10 while having one on the bench.

@crying_freeman: 3 CBs on the bench tells a tale of squad depth atm.

@iamjoshtucker: Let’s get those other signings through the door… feels like 25/26 still.

@Iain_Macdonald7: This only highlights how much more strength we’d need to sign, Le Roux playing. A crock partnering Poole. A striker who can’t strike. Adam’s in at 10 last time we saw that in London we conceded 6. Nothing against the New Zealand lad but we’re screaming out for quality wingers.

@luked1980: Can Rocco play number 10? Can’t see why Adams is there as it clearly doesn’t work. Happy to be proved wrong though.

@Palmrick_pfc: Think it's quite telling Mous would rather persist with Adams in the 10 over putting swift there. It's also possible we're playing with two 8s which would be interesting.
