Portsmouth faithful all say same thing about Sheffield Wednesday-linked Colby Bishop following Marko Milovanovic transfer

Pompey suddenly have proper competition for places in their forward department following Marko Milovanovic’s arrival. But for how long?

Pompey fans on social media have been having their say on Colby Bishop’s Pompey future.

And it’s clear the vast majority are of the same opinion - the Blues need to keep hold of the 29-year-old.

The resounding verdict was delivered after the Fratton Park side splashed the cash to bring in Serbia striker Marko Milovanovic during the week in a multi-million-pound deal.

Brought in to bolster a Pompey attacking department that produced just five goals in all competitions last season, the former UD Almeria man is expected to lead the line for John Mousinho’s side in their third consecutive year in the Championship.

That would subsequently see Bishop, who has netted 60 goals in his four seasons at the club, revert to a back-up role.

Alternatively, Milovanovic’s arrival could potentially see him leave for pastures new, with Sheffield Wednesday reported to be keen on the former Accrington man earlier in the summer.

Mousinho has already stated he wants Bishop to remain at Fratton Park to battle for his place and ensure they go into the season with much-needed depth in their attack.

And it’s clear the Fratton faithful feel the same, as they believe Pompey will remain stronger if the club’s vice-captain sticks around.

Here’s what they’ve been saying after we asked on Facebook: What’s your thoughts on Colby Bishop’s future?

Pompey fans on Colby Bishop

Peter Samuel: Keep him. We need 2 strikers. Bishop's still a good player. A handful at the best of times. Imagine those two up front together!

Peter Soley: Get Josh Murphy fit and ready and I think you'll see a change in Bishop, l wouldn't mind two strikers being played.

Paul Sparky Thomas: We need the magic man - legendary status and finally two competing number 9s.

Aaron Davison: Must keep him, excellent attitude, great character to have in the squad, will push standards and knows how the boss likes to play. Colby’s a good player and will be better with better supply.

Philip Hibbert: I’d be very disappointed if Bishop was allowed to leave. I know last season was a disaster for him in respect to him scoring goals but he contributed so much to the team in other ways. Defending at corners he was often the first to get his head to the ball and clear the danger.

Andrew Farndell: I'd say keep him as back up to Marezi, a bit of competition for him could be good.

Stu Ford: Unless there is a money issue, keep Bishop. There are no guarantees that Milovanovic will produce the goods. Worst case scenario is that Colby would be a great second half sub.

Kev Gevaux-Ross: I would keep him, knowing he has competition may spur him on, plus he can hold the ball up well. Maybe play two up front, we can but dream lol.

Rob Jordan: We need two strikers and we now have two who have similar physical attributes to form a style of play no matter who is upfront. Whoever plays well starts… but a drop in form or a look of being tired and you swap it up.

Michael Pankau: Hope he stays. Think last season was a huge learning curve and should do better this year.

Keith White: Scoring goals was our major problem last season, surely we could give it a go playing the new guy alongside Bishop? I believe the problem was that the service into the lad was lacking. The way forward has to be setting the team up for quick attacking football in the front foot from the off.

Sid Fletcher: I would keep him. Yes, he did not do well last season but we have seen what can do and this new player may be a good thing for him. Yes I say keep him.
