Portsmouth eye Huddersfield goalkeeper as January transfer window nears closure

Pompey are casting their eye over Huddersfield keeper Jacob Chapman.

The Blues are weighing up recruiting a back-up keeper to Craig MacGillivray during Alex Bass’s absence with a calf injury.

Duncan Turnbull has been in Pompey’s squad for the last five matches, including his debut at Peterborough in the Papa John’s Trophy.

However, the Blues have concerns over the American’s experience to serve as a first-team deputy over a lengthy period of time.

That has prompted them to look at Australian Chapman, who is contracted to Huddersfield until the summer of 2022.

Aged 20, he travelled to England seeking a professional deal in November 2018, initially joining the Terriers on trial and impressing sufficiently to earn a contract..

Chapman was then loaned to non-league Ossett United, although has yet to make a first-team appearance for Huddersfield.

He was, however, on the bench for their Championship game at Fulham in February 2020.
