Portsmouth defender Sean Raggett admits match-winning goal against Ipswich Town should never have stood

Sean Raggett admitted he had a stroke of luck as his Ipswich match winner stood.

The defender felt he was offside for the extra-time finish which sent Pompey through to the second round of the FA Cup at Portman Road.

It was Raggett who applied the final touch as Marcus Harness’ free-kick was met by Tom Naylor and then helped on by Rasmus Nicolaisen.

Replays showed the summer arrival from Norwich was in an offside position when he helped the ball over the line.

Raggett said: ‘It was pure instinct to hit it and as soon as I did I thought I maybe shouldn’t have done that.

‘Luckily the goal was given, though, and maybe you do need that luck sometimes but I felt we deserved to win the game.’
