Turnbull’s had to be patient for his chance at Fratton Park as he’s firmly behind Craig MacGillivray and Alex Bass in the pecking order.

However, a calf injury has sidelined Bass for a month, handing Turnbull an opportunity to at Peterborough in the Papa John’s Trophy.

It proved a baptism of fire for the giant stopper, with Kenny Jackett's side slipping to a 5-1 loss.

However, despite conceding four goals before being replaced by Taylor Seymour – who came on for his Pompey bow in the 60th minute – Turnbull’s hoping for more appearances.

He wrote on Twitter: ‘Proud to make my professional and @Pompey debut! Hopefully first of many.’

Turnbull will be hoping to be on the bench for Saturday’s League One trip to Fleetwood, with MacGillivray set to regain his starting spot.

The University of Notre Dame graduate was sent out on loan to Dulwich Hamlet earlier this season.
