Portsmouth boss’ verdict as Fifa cash boost confirmed ahead of transfer window
John Mousinho has confirmed Pompey will be compensated for Kusini Yengi’s injury picked up while on international duty.
But the Blues boss doesn’t see the boost to the club’s coffers having a significant impact on what unfolds, as the transfer window opens.
The 25-year-old is expected to be sidelined for up to 10 weeks, which arrived as a blow for John Mousinho’s squad as his season showed signs of accelerating.
The programme awards a daily payment of up to £17,000 for up to 365 days. That is calculated on the fixed salary paid to a player and excludes the first 28 days of the injury, along with the day the player returns to training.
That broadly would mean receiving six weeks’ compensation, if Yengi is to be out for the 10-week period anticipated.
Mousinho confirmed there would be a payment to the Blues, but didn’t see it as a factor which would make a major difference to the transfer kitty afforded to the football operation in the January window.
He said: ‘I believe so (Pompey will receive compensation). That’s the Fifa regulations and he’s covered until he’s back fit again.
‘I don’t know and it’s no big concern of mine. I don’t think we’re all of a sudden going to have £15m to spend in January!’
