Portsmouth boss responds to rumours Eisners are ready to sell club
Rumous were circulating this week Michael Eisner is about to end his Fratton stewardship. Pompey boss John Mousinho responds.
John Mousinho has given short shrift to talk the Eisners are ready to sell Pompey.
The Blues boss stated he’s heard absolutely nothing about the club’s owners looking to end their Fratton Park ownership.
Mousinho on Eisners selling: ‘I’m pretty sure they would’ve have mentioned it’
Mousinho’s stance comes in the wake of a flurry of chatter among supporters the American’s owners were preparing to end their eight-and-a-half stewardship at PO4.
That emerged this week, with focus on the extent to which Michael Eisner is prepared to back squad improvements in the January transfer window.
Mousinho made it clear he has heard zero over any notion the club’s ownership was going to change hands, with no discussions with the Eisner family over the subject,
The Pompey boss pointed to the fact there is money being spent in the transfer window, as £500,000 was paid to secure Ebou Adams’ capture from Derby County yesterday.
Mousinho doesn’t see the owners sanctioning spending as aligning with a regime who want to part company with Pompey.
When asked about talk the Eisners were looking to sell the club, Mousinho said: ‘No, there’s no light I can shed on that one.
‘You’d have to ask the Eisners themselves about that, but if they were looking to sell I’m pretty sure they would’ve have mentioned it and they wouldn’t be looking to spend what we might spend in January.’
Mousinho last met with the Eisners in person during their most recent visit to Pompey in November of last year, where they watched the 0-0 draw with Wrexham at Fratton Park.
Talks took place in Southsea during that visit, where the Pompey came away optimistic about the position over January transfer business.
Mousinho said: 'They (the owners) were great and we had some really positive discussions about where we are as a football club.
‘It came off the back of a good performance against Wrexham, which was probably a good barometer of where we are and where we need to strengthen in January. It was a really useful week to have them over and have those discussions.
‘Absolutely (they were receptive to any requests), the Eisners have always been very receptive to what we propose and would like to do in certain windows.
‘We’re very, very realistic about where we are as a football club and where we are as a league and in terms of some of the other clubs, especially the ones coming down from the Premier League with parachute payments.
‘With that in mind, though, I think we’ll be in a good position.’
