Portsmouth boss gives update on when head of recruitment could be taken off furlough
Pompey are hopeful of taking head of recruitment Phil Boardman off furlough leave now football is starting to return.
Boardman was one of a number of coaching, playing and office staff who were placed on the government’s Job Retention Scheme at the end of March amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Nevertheless, the Blues’ recruitment process has continued, with manager Kenny Jackett and right-hand man Joe Gallen both doing their due diligence on potential targets during lockdown.
The game is now nearing a comeback in England, however, with the Premier League and Championship seasons restarting next weekend.
Meanwhile, the League Two play-offs also begin later this month. Dates for Pompey’s League One play-off semi-final against Oxford are yet to be confirmed after the campaign was curtailed.
As a result, it will mean there are matches for Boardman to run the rule over.
And with the government trying to get employees back to work now Covid-19 cases are dropping, it means Boardman is edging closer to coming off furlough.
Jackett said: ‘We need to see exactly what our season looks like before we make any decision.

‘It is looking like shortly there will be some games to watch, so that is good news.
‘The overall furlough situation is that the government are trying to get people back to work over the next few months.
‘I am sure that we won't be any different.'
Boardman joined Pompey in September 2017, having previously been head of performance analysis at Wolves.
