Portsmouth and ex-Bristol Rovers defender relaxed over future with focus on the League One play-offs

Lee Brown insists Pompey contract talks are the last thing he's thinking about heading into the League One play-offs.

The vice-skipper stressed his full focus is solely on the Blues achieving their ambition of promotion to the Championship.

Brown's deal expires this summer, although he penned a short-term deal to ensure he'd be available to feature in the play-offs.

After arriving from Bristol Rovers two years ago, it was the ex-QPR defender's target to reach the second tier at Fratton Park.

That's why he's not thinking about what the future holds for him beyond July 13, as Pompey aim to return to the Championship after an eight-year exile.

Brown said: ‘I don’t want to talk about contracts at the moment.

‘I will assess my situation after the play-offs. If the club offer me a contract then I’ll be listening, if they don’t then I won't be listening!

‘I’m very much of the opinion of getting Portsmouth Football Club back into the Championship. Then we will either sit down or we won’t.

‘I’m very relaxed about the situation but that’s because I’ve worked very hard outside on other things outside of football to be relaxed.

‘I’ve worked very hard to put myself in the situation to be relaxed.

‘Hopefully this can be a big lesson to people who haven’t thought about life after football at this time.

‘There is life after football and hopefully they can step up and realise that you need to start thinking about it it because it can go just like that.’

Brown, 29, has made 60 appearances for Pompey, scoring one goal.
