'Wasted opportunity. Dreadful second half' - Portsmouth fans react to draw v QPR and return to Championship relegation zone
Pompey held at home by QPR as John Mousinho’s side return to Championship relegation zone
Pompey fans on social media have been reacting to the Blues’ 1-1 draw with QPR at Fratton Park.
John Mousinho’s side looked on course for a much-needed home win as they went into the half-time break 1-0 up thanks to a dominant opening 45 minutes and Terry Devlin’s third goal of the season.
Yet a poor second-half performance, coupled with a Jimmy Dunne equaliser for the visitors on 61 minutes, meant the hosts were unable to build on their advantage.
And while that was disappointing, so too were results elsewhere, with Oxford leapfrogging the Blues in the table thanks to their 2-1 win against Southampton and Norwich beating Charlton 1-0.
Pompey now sit 22nd in the table - behind Oxford on goal difference and just a point above Norwich, who sit second from bottom above rock-bottom Sheffield Wednesday.
That means relegation concerns are once again heightened following encouraging displays against Blackburn Rovers and Derby prior to Christmas.
Here’s what fans on X have been saying, despite the Blues extending their unbeaten run to three games.
How fans on X have reacted to 1-1 v QPR
@JackDavis10: Wasted opportunity, QPR offered little and once again a poorly defended set piece leaving their most dangerous player free is criminal and never really looked at it second half.
@beastieblue: Too negative second half, wasted opportunity there.
@PORTSMOUTHFCLEE: Second half was poor from us… 1-1 about right in the end. Pompey need to win these games.
@Samalaaarr: Dreadful second half, lost every ounce of creativity and the bench was totally ineffectual.
@PortsmouthFC_FR: Second half was a shocker compared to the good first half performance. Oxford and Norwich both winning as well… we’re in trouble!
@tjhooker1151: This isn't two points dropped, nor thrown away, these points were wrapped up with a bow at HT and just gifted away, awful second half and other results have left us right in the fire.
@LukeEllisPUP: As good as we were first half, we weren’t good enough 2nd half. We just aren’t good enough at the moment.
@TrveCvltPop: The second half of a team that is pure relegation fodder.
@GibMonkeyPompey: Pompey provide QPR with a gift of a second half performance, creating little to no goal scoring opportunities, that ensures they enter the relegation zone.
If we are to remain in this league we’re going to need to find a way to replicate that first half performance which was probably their best half of the season.
Next up Charlton at home. An opportunity to put two good halves together and take 3 points.
@YNWA2306: 2 points dropped and wasteful in the 2nd half! Desperate for bodies who know what to do in the final 3rd.
@joerobbs: Not good enough. Have to win our home games. We just create absolutely nothing in open play. Back to back games not holding onto a lead. Depressing. Going down.
@LWalterini1898: After playing so well first half could see that 2nd half coming, game management is non-existent.
