PFA reportedly believe they can 'find an answer' to Portsmouth contract issues as season extended indefinitely
The Professional Footballers’ Association believe they can ‘find an answer’ to players whose deals expire this summer with the season now extended indefinitely, national reports suggest.
According to the Daily Mirror, there are hopes an arrangement will be made after the coronavirus outbreak suspended football until April 30 following a Premier League meeting yesterday.
It means the campaign will run well into the summer now the Euros 2020 have been pushed back a year.
Uefa announced it aims for all European leagues to be completed by June 30, but it remains to be seen if this can be fulfilled as the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic continues.
If the term goes into July, it means Pompey face the prospect of losing players that are out of contract on June 30.
Permanents include Christian Burgess, Lee Brown, Brett Pitman and Oli Hawkins, while the loan spells of Sean Raggett (Norwich), Ross McCrorie (Rangers), Cameron McGeehan (Barnsley) and Steve Seddon (Birmingham) are due to expire at the end of the original season.
Consequently, it would leave the Blues with a crisis as they’d have to complete their League One promotion push with depleted numbers.
But the Mirror report claims the PFA were in the Premier League video conference call, with one source saying: ‘We will find a solution on this – everyone wants to find a way.’

Pompey would still have to pay players whose contract come to an end for an additional 28 days if they did depart but couldn't find another team.
And if they found a new side but were on less money, then the Blues would have to make up the difference of their previous wage until the end of July.
