After four successive draws, Joe Pigott climbed off the bench to head home Michael Jacobs’ right-wing cross in the 75th minute to earn a 1-0 victory over Accrington.
It was a flat occasion, with frustration audible among the Fratton faithful, and here are our Pompey on-the-whistle player ratings…..

9. Harry Jewitt-White - 7
(Replaced by Joe Pigott on 64 minutes) Handed his full debut in the Football League and a huge plus point. Several clever passes to launch attacks and always show willingness to make a tackle. Photo: Jason Brown

10. Tom Lowery - 6
One difficult shooting chance in the first half, but overall couldn’t get into the match to influence it. Looked more effective when switched to holding in midfield after Pigott’s introduction . Photo: National World

11. Paddy Lane - 7
(Replaced by Sean Raggett on 90 minutes) One of his best displays of a fragmented introduction to Pompey and had the Blues’ first shot on 56 minutes. Looked bright, confident and a hint that he could be a fine player for Pompey. Photo: National World

12. Colby Bishop - 6
Frustratingly another game feeding off scraps and loose balls with that 25-goal target still agonisingly short. Drove one shot just past the post in the second half, but otherwise not used enough. Photo: NationalWorld
