Positive cases have meant clubs throughout the division have been forced to cancel games, with Pompey calling off clashes with Swindon and Bristol Rovers over the festive period.
A new strain of Covid-19 that’s more easily spread means cases across the country have surged, resulting in England entering a third national lockdown.

Michael Appleton is currently self-isolating after testing positive for coronavirus. However, CEO Liam Scully reckons a hiatus of football is not required. He said: Based on the information I’ve seen, things like a circuit breaker aren’t going to make a material difference. Our players will still have to train or the season would have to be put back. You can’t just turn elite athletes off and expect them to come back in two weeks, even if they’re training on their own.' Photo: Joe Pepler

Amid reports of increased testing in the EFL, Russell Martin is adamant the league must help financially. He said: 'Testing costs a lot of money, so we would need to get help with that. Player's welfare and well-being is paramount, we're keeping them as safe as we possible can. But if we're going to test regularly, we will need help with that from the authorities financially.' Not too much has been reported by Keith Curle's side when it comes to a circuit breaker, although the pandemic is impacting the club's finances when it comes to recruiting players this month. Photo: Pete Norton

Karl Robinson admits there's going to be positive tests in his side but the U's plan to fulfil fixtures. He said: 'I can’t foresee everybody testing negative in the world we live in. If that’s the case, we will carry on with whoever we’ve got available.' Photo: Graham Hunt
