Portsmouth boss responds to talk of £500,000 move for Bolton Wanderers defender

John Mousinho has distanced Pompey from talk of a move for Josh Dacres-Cogley.

The Blues boss stated there’s ‘nothing in’ suggestions of a bid to bring in the £500,000-rated Bolton defender this summer.

Reports emerged over the weekend Pompey were on the trail of the 28-year-old, who excelled for Ian Evatt’s side last term.

The News yesterday stated their understanding there was no substance in a bid for the former Tranmere man, after Jordan Williams was recruited as their front-line right-back as he left Barnsley this summer.

And though Mousinho didn’t want to get drawn into speaking about a player contracted to another outfit, he did make it clear there was no interest from the Pompey end.

He said: ‘The way we’ve dealt with these over the past six months is players like that who are contracted, we’re not going to comment on them either way whether there’s any link or not.

‘In Josh’s case he’s a fantastic player who was brilliant last year, but there’s nothing in it from us.’

Pompey have also been linked with a move for Aussie midfielder Aiden O’Neill this summer, with talk emerging last week of a bid for the Standard Liege man.

There was interest in the Socceroos man 12 months ago, but The News understands that is not being advanced at this stage.

Mousinho again wouldn’t be drawn on talk of a move for the 26-year-old.

He added: ‘Aiden was out of contract last year but has now gone into Europe this and is under contract.

‘Out of respect for those clubs we wouldn’t say anything, because we wouldn’t want it happening the other way. So we leave those ones alone.’
