John Marquis' humorous Lee Brown admission while taking charge of Portsmouth on Football Manager

It’s a precarious period that’s caused football to grind to a halt.

The coronavirus outbreak has now suspended the game for a week and there’s still at least more than a month to go.

Take the date of April 30 the FA when matches could again resume lightly, though, as reports have suggested the season may not restart again until June.

As a result, it's left plenty of people twiddling their thumbs, at a loose end not knowing what to do.

Kenny Jackett's troops are undergoing their own fitness programmes at home, but there’s still plenty of time they have left to kill.

Football Manager, like so many others, is how John Marquis is occupying himself.

The striker has dislodged Jackett – the man who brought him back to Fratton Park from Doncaster in the summer – on the game, having opted to take the Blues hot seat.

Speaking to BBC 5 Live, Marquis gave an insight into how he's been faring in charge of Pompey.

He’s experienced the triumphs of guiding the Blues back to the Championship – as well as the difficulties of what comes with management.

Despite being good friends off the pitch, Marquis revealed Lee Brown wasn’t happy with him for not being offered a new contract!

The striker said: ‘I’m Football Managering, managing Portsmouth.

‘I’ve been alright actually. I got promoted first season, won the Golden Boot and am going quite well in the Championship.

‘When I can slip myself off for 10 minutes, I try to get a few games in and try to keep the kids occupied and make sure they don't get any cabin fever either.

‘I’ve still got a couple of years left (on my contract in the game), I’m going to sit tight at the moment.

‘There are a few lads who've been kicking off over a few things.

‘Lee Brown is not happy he’s not got a new contract, I offered him a wage cut as well and he wasn’t happy.

‘But it’s been alright, been a good laugh.’
