It's been the honour of my life - every word of Christian Burgess' goodbye message to Portsmouth fans
Christian Burgess’ exit from Pompey after five years has been confirmed as he joins Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
In a message to www.portsmouthfc.co.uk, Burgess outlines his emotion over the five-year journey he’s been on at Fratton Park and in the city. Here’s every word of what he said:
‘Hi guys, Christian Burgess, here, I just wanted to give one last message before I left.
‘It’s been an absolute pleasure representing everybody and playing for this great football club. I’ve loved every minute of it. It’s been a real rollercoaster, but, from the very first day, I’ve always felt really welcome here.
‘I’ve managed to build an amazing connection with the fans, the city and the place itself.
‘I’ve loved being here, being a part of it and being in the mix from the football to everybody at Pompey in the Community who I’ve worked alongside especially during the recent crisis.
‘It’s been the honour of my life so far and I hope I’ve given you guys some memories and made you proud when I walked out on to that pitch.
‘I just wanted to wish you the best of luck for the future. This club will achieve the success it’s looking for - it’s just a matter of when and not if, in my opinion.

‘Lastly, I’m really looking forward to returning as a fan, coming back to watch a game at Fratton and being back here again in this great city.
‘So thanks very much for the last five years, by far the best five years of my footballing career and, yes, thanks.’
