'Incredible value for money... Cracking player... Huge prospect' - what Dundalk fans have been saying about latest Portsmouth signing Eoin Kenny

Eoin Kenny has swapped the League of Ireland for the Championship after completing his move to Dundalk on Monday

Pompey revealed their second signing of the summer transfer window on Monday night.

The anticipated deal to bring young Dundalk forward Eoin Kenny to Fratton Park for an undisclosed fee (initially reported at around €40,000) was finally announced by the Blues, providing the PO4 fanbase with some much-wanted concrete transfer developments following Odin Bailey’s arrival last week.

The 20-year-old has signed a three-year deal with Pompey and has now joined his new team-mates on their pre-season training camp in Ireland.

Following confirmation of his move, the Northern Ireland under-21 international said his goodbyes to those he’ll be leaving behind at Oriel Park. Writing on Instagram. Kenny wrote: ‘Playing for Dundalk FC was a dream realised. It is my time to move on and I would like to thank every person at the club who believed in me during my time.

‘The rapport between fans and players is special and I wish the club every success for the rest of the season and beyond.’

In return, Dundalk fans have been posting their own goodbyes to a player who played a key role in the club’s promotion back to the League of Ireland’s top flight in 2025 and has registered eight goal contributions in 22 games this season.

Here’s a selection of the views they’ve been sharing on Facebook....

Patrick Mc Ardle: Will be watching Eoin’s progress with interest. Is €35k release fee trigger the norm? Seems a very low amount for a transfer mid-season to a Championship club. I'd imagine Portsmouth spend that per month on lucozade. Incredible value for money if he continues to progress.

Stephen Connolly: League of Ireland is a great learning curve for Irish lads to progress to England or further away. But young Kenny has got an opportunity to secure his future and have a brilliant career. Dundalk fc loss but that's the game. Best of luck.

Lorraine Durnin: What a cracking player Kenny turned into. Will be badly missed, wishing him all the best for the future.

Gerry Lennon: Best of luck and fitness Eoin a lovely lad with a great attitude.

Michael Quinn: The best of luck on your transfer, Eoin. I am very sure will do very well for your future. Thank you for your excellent contribution to Dundalk FC.

Trevor Thompson: Well done Eoin, all the best for the future. Shame about that fee being so low, he’s one of the best young prospects in the league.

Orla Crilly: A pleasure to watch you go from strength to strength as a player. You have a grit and determination that will serve you well in your career. Best of luck. Dundalk will always be your home.

Rhyd Cole: All the very best, from what I’ve seen he’s a huge prospect!

Sean Maxi Kavanagh: I wish him nothing but success but selling players for penny's at this stage is a joke.

Pompey fans will likely get their first look at Kenny when the Blues kick off their pre-season friendly schedule next week.

A trip to Woking is pencilled in for Tuesday, July 15, with a game at Aldershot coming 24 hours later on Wednesday, July 15.

John Mousinho’s side close the week with a game at Bristol Rovers on Saturday, July 18.
