The Blues were indebted to the returning Callum Lang for a first win in 11 matches in all competitions this season, with the attacker creating one and then grabbing the winner from the penalty spot.
John Mousinho’s men found themselves behind after just nine minutes when Kader Dembele lobbed into an empty net following Nicolas Schmid’s poor headed clearance.
However, brilliant work from Lang provided the leveller for Freddie Potts on 18 minutes and the the ex-Wigan man won himself a second-half penalty – and converted it.
The Blues held out for a vital victory – and here are our Pompey player ratings...

5. Tom McIntyre - 9
One tremendous covering tackle on Chair in the first half summed up arguably his best performance in a Pompey shirt. Some brilliant interceptions, read the game extremely well and always composed on the ball. Photo: Jason Brown

6. Connor Ogilvie - 8
Have to give the left-back credit for fighting back from a difficult Championship start to produce another solid display. An absolute rock as the left-sided centre-back, loving defending. Photo: Jason Brown

7. Marlon Pack - 7
Better from the skipper, who hasn’t looked his usual self of late. Chased, harried and kept possession well. One great surge in the second half saw him surge to the byline to cross, but the ball was narrowly out of play. Photo: Jason Brown

8. Freddie Potts - 8
In the build up had promised Pompey fans there was more to come from him - and he weighed in with a maiden Blues goal to level. Growing with every game, such a stylish performer and so comfortable on the ball. Photo: Jason Brown
