Huge double injury boost for Portsmouth ahead of QPR clash

Pompey have been handed a huge double boost ahead of the resumption of the Championship.

Kusini Yengi and Callum Lang both returned to training during the international break having been sidelined by injury since last month.

Now the attacking pair are poised to be included in John Mousinho’s squad for Saturday’s trip to QPR as the Blues chase their first win of the season.

Yengi has endured an injury-hampered start to the campaign, being available for just two of Pompey’s 10 matches in all competitions.

The Australian international sustained a groin problem in training ahead of the opening day of the season at Leeds, putting him out for three games.

Certainly it has been an immensely frustrating start to Championship life for Yengi, while the Blues have unquestionably missed the striking talents of a player who netted 13 times in their League One title-winning season.

The former Wigan man had started the season in fine form and remains the Blues’ leading scorer with three goals, despite missing their last three games.

Mousinho has struggled to find an effective alternative in the number 10 role, with Paddy Lane and Christian employed there during Lang’s injury absence.

Although he did operate on the right wing at Burnley, with Lane as the number 10, before being forced off in the 76th minute with a groin issue - and Pompey subsequently losing four minutes into stoppage-time.

The pair will undoubtedly bolster an attack which has scored nine times in the Championship this season and drew 1-1 against Oxford United in their last outing.

The Blues are presently second from bottom of the table with five points and no wins from their opening nine league fixtures.
