Highly-rated Portsmouth favourite and Northern Ireland international Terry Devlin hands Blues welcome boost
Terry Devlin has put the hamstring injury that prevented him from finishing last season fit firmly behind him
Terry Devlin has handed Pompey a fitness boost ahead of their upcoming pre-season return.
The recently-crowned Pompey player of the year has recovered from the hamstring injury that ruled him out of the Blues’ last three games of the 2025-26 season.
And with the Pompey players due to report back for training in two weeks following their well-deserved summer breaks, the Northern Ireland international has been putting in the hard yards to make up for lost time.
Devlin puts hamstring injury behind him
Currently back in his native County Tyrone, the 22-year-old has enlisted the help of current Dungannon Swifts midfielder and Uefa B licence coach Shea Gordon to get him in tip-top shape for his Pompey return.
Accompanied by former Swifts team-mate and Dundee defender Aaron Donnelly, social media footage has emerged of the right-back being put through his paces at one-time stomping ground Stangmore Park.
Devlin can be seen participating in various drills as he tests the hamstring injury he picked up in the opening 15 minutes of the Blues’ Championship victory against Leicester at Fratton Park on April 18.
The injury also prevented the former Glentoran midfielder from linking up with his Northern Ireland international team-mates for their June friendlies against Guinea and a star-studded French outfit in Lille last week.
Yet all the indications are Devlin has put his injury setback firmly behind him as he targets hitting the ground running for a Pompey pre-season friendly schedule that kicks off with a trip to Woking on July 14.
Before that, Devlin & Co will report back for some fitness checks to ensure they haven’t over-indulged while away from the club, and a series of training days at the Blues’ Hilsea training base.
However, the current Pompey player of the year would be the last person you’d expect to have let his fitness levels slip during the close season regadless of his early finish to last season.

Devlin’s Pompey future remains a talking point
The question remains, though: will Devlin still be a Pompey player when the transfer window shuts on September 1?
Clubs are expected to test the Blues’ resolve to keep the converted full-back following a hugely impressive 2025-26 campaign that saw him pick up 17 individual supporters’ club awards.
Wrexham had a £2m bid for the Fratton favourite rejected by Pompey in January and are among those anticipated to make enquiries for Devlin over the coming weeks and months.
The Blues will only sell, however, if their valuation of the player is meet, guaranteeing them a huge profit on a player they picked up from Irish League Football for £70,000 in the summer of 2023.
Meanwhile, Pompey chief executive Andy Cullen told The News last month that they were under no pressure to sell Devlin or fellow prized-asset Adrian Segecic.
