Unsurprisingly, the 11 players selected caused plenty of debate to rage not only among the Fratton faithful but fans of the other 23 clubs in the third tier.
There was member of Pompey’s squad named in the side, although that wasn't a big shock given the inconsistent results that have occured this term.
But did any players at PO4 deserve to be in contention? And were there names from rivals clubs that were lucky to make the cut?
Pompey writer Will Rooney has picked out an XI, along with a bench, he believes have been the best performers in the division this term.

9. Left wing-back - Mallik Wilks - Hull
Wilks serves as more of a forward these days but he's got to be in this side. The former Leeds man has netted 19 times and created a further eight goals for the champions, which has led to him being linked with Premier League Burnley. Photo: Alex Davidson

10. Striker - Jonson Clarke-Harris - Peterborough
What a season the Posh marksman has enjoyed. Clarke-Harris had netted 31 goals in all competitions to lead Darren Ferguson's men to automatic promotion. It's hardly a surprise he's being linked with a move elsewhere given his exploits. Photo: Nigel Keene

11. Striker - Charlie Wyke - Sunderland
In normal years, Wyke would have won the Golden Boot with 25 goals, while he's also weighed in with four assists. He's out of contract this summer and will likely be in the Championship next term if Sunderland fail to go up. Photo: Daniel Chesterton

12. Sub 1 - Craig MacGillivray (Pompey)
Wrestled back the No1 spot at Fratton Park and been one of the best performers this term and is a strong contender to be named The News/ Sports Mail Player of the Season. Photo: Daniel Chesterton
