'Got lots wrong today. Pathetic. League One attack' - Portsmouth fans react to defeat to Southampton in south-coast derby
Pompey suffer defeat to south-coast rivals Southampton despite playing more than half of game with extra-man advantage
Pompey fans on social media have been having their say about the Blues’ 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the south-coast derby.
James Bree’s 20th-minute opener was enough to condemn John Mousinho’s side to defeat at St Mary’s, despite the hosts being reduced to 10 men in the 44th minute following Cam Bragg’s second yellow card of the game.
The sending off gave the visitors a real chance to claw themselves back and get something from the game.
However, Pompey were unable to breach the home defence or even ask any questions of Southampton keeper Daniel Peretz, who was required to make two saves during the entire game.
The defeat leaves the Blues 19th in the table and just a point above the relegation zone.
Here’s what fans have been saying as they take stock of Sunday’s events at St Mary’s.
@ShaunCHill: Gutless performance. Mous got lots wrong today. Kamara in the 10. Subbing off RKM the worst of his subs.
But the subs continued to be dismal and he is obsessed with changing like for like. Would like him to admit he got it wrong in the post match presser.
@adamb_pfc: Subs absolutely killed us. Taking Adams off and putting Swanson on the left when he was dominating ruined it.
@Willfrattonpark: Pathetic….took so many shots but never made their keeper work for it.
@adamb_pfc: Subs absolutely killed us. Taking Adams off and putting Swanson on the left when he was dominating ruined it.
@harveybotblue: Absolutely pathetic. Terrible decisions and no heart. Truly awful.
@YNWA2306: League One defenders and awful sub from the managers.
@swatkins95: That was truly woeful. Southampton were incredibly poor, but didn’t even have to try against 10. Budgets can’t be a excuse there as that was on us, again.
@ODJchef: Every single player can hang there head in shame bar Adam’s.
Not mustering a shot on target against 10 men in a derby.
Problems from The top To the bottom at this club. One day you show up for the fans.
Against 10 men for over half the game and can’t show up for the city. Embarrassment of a team.
@Samalaaarr: It really wasn’t that bad, just no cutting edge which has been the case for ages.
The red card didn’t give us a right to win it stopped us losing 4-0.
@Palmrick_pfc: Criminal second half.
@EFCxGoat: We can’t even beat 10 men.
@jordy_drapes: League One attack. Can’t complain.
@LiamWilliams444: Terrible Performance! Played Against 10 Men For 45 Mins.
We Never Looked Like Scoring. Always Looked Vulnerable In Defence. Final Pass & Cross Just Not Good Enough. Questionable Substitutions.
