Former Portsmouth favourite Freddie Potts in 'advanced talks' over €12m West Ham exit
Former Pompey favourite Freddie Potts could be about to leave West Ham
Freddie Potts could pass up the opportunity to be reunited with Pompey at the London Stadium next weekend.
The Blues travel to West Ham in the first-round of the Carabao Cup on Saturday, August 8, with 9,000 members of the Fratton faithful set to descend on the capital for their side’s first game of the 2026-27 season.
As well as getting the chance to check out John Mousinho’s new-look side ahead of their Championship opener against QPR a week later, the Pompey fans have also been looking forward to seeing how Potts has progressed since his hugely successful PO4 loan stint in 2024-25.
Yet, they might now be denied the opportunity to do that following developments regarding the midfielder’s Hammers future.
Indeed, reports have emerged on Saturday morning that the 22-year-old could be poised to leave his boyhood club.
According to highly-respected Belgian transfer specialist Sacha Tavolieri, Potts is in talks with Club Brugge over a potential €12m move to the reigning Pro League champions.
Those discussions are supposedly at an advanced stage, after the Hammers academy product gave the move the green light.
Tavolieri reports Potts is seen as the ideal replacement for Raphael Onyedika, who is on the brink of a move to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Freddie Potts - a firm favourite during his time at Fratton Park
Potts, who made 38 loan appearances for Pompey as they finished 16th in the 2024-25 Championship, featured 22 times for West Ham in the Premier League last season following his league debut against Chelsea last August.
Twelve of those outings came as starts, with the midfielder racking up 25 games in total for the Hammers.
However, he was used sparringly over the second half of the season under Nuno Espirito Santo as the east-London side suffered relegation to the Championship.
If Potts leaves, he’ll be the latest departure from the London Stadium following the club’s demotion from the Premier League.
Already this summer, West Ham have waved goodbye to the likes of Mateus Fernandes, Crysencio Summerville and Lucas Paqueta.
