Former Birmingham winger hands Portsmouth injury boost as Southampton earmarked for comeback
Some good news finally on the injury front for Pompey
Keshi Anderson is closing in on his much-anticipated Pompey return.
John Mousinho has confirmed the winger has returned to training after almost two months out with a torn quad.
And the Blues boss is expecting the former Birmingham man to be in contention for the south coast derby game against Sunderland on October 11, which is immediately after the international break.
‘Keshi’s had a decent block of time out now since the start of pre-season,’ Mousinho told The News ahead of Saturday’s game against Blackburn Rovers.
‘We’ve had to manage him very, very closely to make sure we pay real close attention to what his comeback looks like.
‘We’ve obviously now got the three weeks from this weekend until the next game so we’ll just use that wisely to build him back up.’
Anderson suffered the injury during Pompey’s pre-season trip to Fota Island in Ireland.
The forward has made just seven appearances for the Blues since his move to Fratton Park in January.
The 31-year-old missed 10 games over the second half of last season because of a torn hamstring.
Despite his impending return, Pompey remain without fellow wingers Josh Murphy and Luke Brooke-Smith for this weekend’s game against Blackburn Rovers.
