Ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa striker hails Portsmouth's efforts in the community

Pompey’s efforts in the community during the coronavirus crisis have been lauded by Stan Collymore.

The ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa striker has heaped praise on Christian Burgess and Co while football is suspended.

Burgess and Sean Raggett last week helped out in the Enable Ability cafe kitchen at Landport Community Centre.

Meanwhile, the likes of Cameron McGeehan, Tom Naylor and Ben Close have also been giving up their time to lend a hand to Hive Portsmouth and Pompey in the Community.

Their efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, with plenty of people outside of the PO postcode area recognising the job the Blues are doing.

Writing in his Daily Mirror column, Collymore saluted the efforts of Kenny Jackett’s troops.

He said: ‘Kudos to Christian Burgess and those Portsmouth team-mates of his, who have been working in a kitchen helping to provide food for the elderly and vulnerable.

‘Pompey is a fantastic club, it's very much a community club and it's great to see them involved in it again.

‘Burgess and his pals are showing it isn’t just football's big names who are getting out there and doing there bit.’
