17. Pompey 1-1 Carlisle - August 6, 2016
Perhaps an underwhelming opening to a season that would yield the League Two title. Carlisle went in front before having Jamie Devitt sent-off, although Pompey couldn’t take full advantage. Debutant Carl Baker equalised before half-time although the Blues couldn’t find a winner in the second period. Photo: Joe Pepler

18. Pompey 2-0 Rochdale - August 5, 2017
The Tornante era got under way in brilliant fashion. In Kenny Jackett’s first game, his new skipper Brett Pitman - a coup of a signing - netted twice in the second period. Jamal Lowe was also sent off for the Blues. Photo: Joe Pepler

19. Pompey 1-0 Luton - August 4, 2018
This was a performance full of defensive steel and resolve. Jamal Lowe opened the scoring on 16 minutes before the Hatters piled on plenty of pressure. They were unable to breach Pompey, though, with the likes of Matt Clarke and Jack Whatmough magnificent. Photo: Andrew Fosker / PinPep

20. Shrewsbury 1-0 Pompey - August 4, 2019
A lacklustre first game which would epitomise Pompey’s opening to the following season. The Blues created a dearth of goalscoring chances while Ryan Giles’ superb strike gave the Shrews all three points. Photo: Simon Davies
