The pair have a history in recent years, with the former Plymouth boss known for agitating the Blues during his time at Home Park.
And That rivalry will be renewed at Fratton Park as his struggling Morecambe side make the Easter trip to the south coast - looking to ease their relegation fears.
Ahead of the contest, we’ve taken a look at quotes from Adams and former Pompey players that show the rivalry between the pair in recent history.

5. Derek Adams on 1-1 draw in April 2022
Adams insisted his Morecambe side should’ve won by four or five after their 1-1 draw with Pompey in April 2022. He said: ‘We definitely deserved to win the game because if you look at their goalkeeper, he’s made some really outstanding saves. We had 19 attempts on goals compared to Portsmouth’s nine so that tells you how dominant we were in the game. We had so many good opportunities to win the game by a greater margin and we deserved more than a point. We deserved all three. I am disappointed we didn’t get all three points because of how dominant we were in the afternoon. Portsmouth are a very good side but they didn’t cause us much trouble today and that’s testament to the team but on the flipside, the amount of good opportunities we had. If we had won four or five no one could’ve complained because we were outstanding all over the pitch and it was an excellent performance from us.’ Photo: Daniel Chesterton

6. Michael Doyle on Plymouth rivalry
‘It started with the managers and went from there, transferring to the pitch to become really niggly between a couple of players from each side. To eventually lose to them in the semi-finals, and in the manner it arrived, was heartbreaking. Derek Adams was a bit of an idiot, to be fair, he kept mentioning wages and budgets in the press whenever they played us and there was no need for it. He eventually turned on his own fans and local media before being sacked in April 2019 and, while he seems a good manager, I don’t think he has great social skills. The managers didn’t like each other, while the tackles were always a bit tasty and in April 2016 I was smashed by Peter Hartley in a 2-1 defeat at Fratton Park, leaving me seeing stars. I went to turn on the halfway line and he cracked me with an elbow, one of life’s tricks with centre-halves, and I came off with concussion. Photo: Joe Pepler

7. Ben Davies on helping Pompey win League Two with Grimsby
‘Upon reaching the Blundell Park dressing room, my first act was to fire off a number of texts from my phone. The recipients were Michael Doyle, Gareth Evans, Conor Chaplin and Gary Roberts. The message simply said: “Congratulations. I’ve done my bit”. There was no way Plymouth Argyle were winning the League title on my patch, not after the previous season, no chance. As I left the pitch on that final day of the 2016-17 campaign, Derek Adams’ team were absolutely devastated – and it was brilliant to see.’ Photo: Joe Pepler

8. Derek Adams on losing 3-0 to Pompey in 2018
After Plymouth’s 3-0 defeat to Pompey in 2018, Adams reminded Pompey fans of his record as Pilgrims boss. He said: ‘Portsmouth have only finished above me once in my three years at this football club, and that was the last game of the season (in 2016/17). So they can have their day today, and rightly so, they have won 3-0. They are in a buoyant mood. But they have just got to remember that we have finished above them twice out of three seasons.’ Photo: Joe Pepler/Digital South
