Firstly, it’s the day that will see the contracts of both Joe Morrell and Zak Swanson officially expire, with no white smoke yet to emerge from talks over possible Fratton Park extensions - 61 days after the Blues announced their retained list.
Secondly, it’s the last day before certain members of the Pompey first-team enter the final year of their current deals, giving the Pompey hierarchy plenty to think about over the next 12 months.
In total eight players will potentially be available on free transfers if new terms are not reached. In fairness, there’s plenty of time to have those chats. Meanwhile, John Mousino told The News earlier this month that Pompey will move to secure the futures of their big contracted assets this summer to avoid any issues.
But who are the eight who will be at the centre of those discussions? Here’s what we discovered.

5. Kusini Yengi
The 25-year-old Aussie bagged an impressive 13 goals during his first season in English football in 2023-24. The Blues have the option of another year, which is a welcome safety net. But as Yengi's stock rises both here and on the international scene, the Blues might want to provide themselves with a bit more security just in case his profile gets even bigger. | National World

6. Anthony Scully
The winger has had wretched luck with injuries ever since the made the move to Fratton Park from Wigan last summer. With just nine appearances made and three starts in the league secured, this forthcoming pre-season period is vitally important for the 25-year-old. Fans will be desperate for his luck to change. They'll also be keen to see what they've potentially been missing during those long periods on the sidelines. | National World

7. Ben Stevenson
Recruited last summer to add depth to Pompey's central midfield options, it was a shame that, when he was needed, he was injured. Slotted in nicely in cup competitions and also impressed on his Blues league debut against Port Vale - but remained well down the pecking order. Was unlucky to suffer a knee ligament injury in training in January. Despite returning to fitness in the final month of last season, his most recent appearance was on New Year's Day against Stevenage. Photo: Jason Brown

8. Tom Lowery
Another player who's playing time at Fratton Park has been frustratingly restricted by injury. A technically gifted player, the midfielder has made just 26 league appearances during his two-year stay at the club. That will need to improve if he's to stand any chance of a new Pompey deal in the next 12 months. Photo: Jason Brown/ProSportsImages
