The Blues shared a goalless draw with the high-fliers in a tight contest played with plenty of commitment, although had Will Norris to thank after three excellent saves.
Debutant Jacob Farrell wasted a chance to win at the death when he headed Marlon Pack’s corner over the bar in the 90th minute – and here are our player ratings….
9. Paddy Lane - 7
(Replaced by Harvey Blair on 84 mins) Fratton fans love his energy and work-rate and he didn't let them down. Buzzed around without necessarily creating too much. Had one great first-half chance which was struck left-footed from inside the box and tipped around the far post. Photo: Jason Brown/ProSportsImages
10. Josh Murphy - 7
A touch of class at times and always offers a threat. Need more final output from him but it is bound to come and he continues to catch the eye. Photo: Jason Brown
11. Mark O'Mahony - 8
First Pompey start and quickly made an impact, showing willingness to chase and nick the ball off the defenders. Also demonstrated physicality with a fantastic full-blooded first-half challenge, harshly called for a foul, then physically outmanoeuvred Souttar. Very encouraging. Photo: Jason Brown
12. Portsmouth Marlon Pack (7) tackles Sheffield United defender Alfie Gilchrist (2) during the EFL Sky Bet Championship match between Portsmouth and Sheffield United at Fratton Park, Portsmouth, England on 28 September 2024.
