'Doesn't deliver. Let him go. Supreme Catfish' - the former Portsmouth forward struggling to win over fans
Former Pompey loanee Gustavo Caballero should avoid social media for the foreseeable future
Gustavo Caballero is struggling to win over the fans at Santos.
A quick glance on social media shows the former Pompey loanee hasn’t exactly warmed himself to supporters following his return to the Brazilian side in the summer.
The Paraguay international is back with the Brasileirão outfit after failing to convince the Blues to make his temporary stay at Fratton Park over the second half of last season permanent.
Reported interest from elsewhere in England and Europe also failed to translate into concrete offers, while a transfer ban imposed on Santos forced them to begrudgingly welcome the winger back into their fold.
Since then, Caballero has featured 11 times in all competitions for the Peixe, who currently sit eighth in Brazil’s Serie A.
But with the 25-year-old yet to contribute a goal or an assist for manager Cuca’s side, or complete a full 90 minutes, the brutal Santos fans already appear to have had enough.
‘I hope he does well (with Paraguay) and some club takes an interest and signs him from Santos,’ wrote one fan on X after Santos congratulated the forward for his latest call-up to the Paraguay national team.
‘So you can see the level of the Paraguayan national team,’ commented another, which was then followed by the verdict: ‘I hope they play him in this squad or something, so some fool comes along and takes him away.’
Continuing the theme, someone else wrote: ‘I hope it goes really well and we manage to make a sale. He has a market in some Arabia out there for having competed in the World Cup and all that, but here it doesn’t deliver.’
Meanwhile, also on X, the comment appeared: ‘Who plays a ton and some foreign club takes an interest in him so we can sell this thing quickly. This guy's the supreme catfish.’

The above opinions are just a flavour of some of the printable comments that can be published here.
And it appears the users of Facebook can be just as opinionated on a player who scored one goal in 12 appearances for Pompey last season.
‘May he play well and be sold,’ said one so-called Santos fan. ‘Let him go...... and stay in Paraguay,’ wrote another.
Meanwhile, ‘Is Paraguay really that bad at attacking?’ was another verdict harshly delivered.
Caballero, who joined Santos from Nacional Asunción in 2025 for a reported £1.2m, still has plenty of time to convince the fans of his capabilities. After all, he still has more than two years to run on his current contract.
Pompey, meanwhile, have moved on. Since Caballero left Fratton Park at the end of last season, the Blues have reinforced their wing options with the signings of Abu Kamara, Tyrese Shade, Luke Brooke-Smith and Ryan Kavuma-McQueen (loan).
