That figure includes their five loanees – Joe Pigott, Owen Dale, Matt Macey, Dane Scarlett and Di’Shon Bernard. It also involves Jayden Reid, who suffered an ACL in pre-season.
The club have consistently insisted nothing will be decided until the end of the season so that head coach John Mousinho can fairly run the rule over every player at his disposal.
Yet that hasn’t stopped the topic being discussed with those with an influence on the situation at Fratton Park.
Here’s what been said to The News on the record about each individual case to date.

9. Jay Mingi
John Mousinho: ‘We know what Jay is capable of, it’s about trying to harness that on a more consistent basis. We need to get him doing that week-in, week-out and not just in games but on the training pitch as well. He has the ability to do things other players in this league can’t do. It (contract and training compensation) is a conversation above me. I will have a football input in it, but it’s one for Rich (Hughes) and the recruitment team, in terms of what contract is offered and what compensation looks like. In terms of the model, though, keeping young players is the goal at the moment.’ Photo: Jason Brown

10. Matt Macey
John Mousinho: 'We have our views internally, we really like Matt, he’s a great addition to the group – and then Matt has to make a decision. He must decide where he wants to play his football and, moving forward, we hope it’s with us. Hopefully there’s a resolution to it, but we’ll have to wait until it probably reaches a natural point towards the end of the season because we are still in mid-March. Fingers crossed we’re able to find a solution that keeps Matt at this football club.’ Photo: Jason Brown

11. Dane Scarlett - on loan from Spurs
John Mousinho: ‘Dane doesn’t lack confidence, he’s a really confident young lad, and he’s going to go on to have a brilliant career, that is why Tottenham have him on a long-term contract. He is still incredibly young, at 18 he has the world at his feet.' Photo: Jez Tighe

12. Louis Thompson
John Mousinho: ‘We spoke a week or two about seeing how the last 11 games go, as it was at that point. I think it’s a fair place to be for both parties where we keep having a look at it. He probably wants to see where things fit in for him towards the back end of the season as well, and what that looks like for him next season. We can then have a much more in-depth conversation about that in quite a few games’ time, rather than doing it now and guessing as what we’re doing. Louis is genuinely really brilliant to have around the place. Regardless of what happens, we will have that grown-up conversation and will do whatever is best for Louis. We’ll then sit down closer to the time and see what it looks like for both of us.’ Photo: Jason Brown
